Mockingjay! Mockingjay! Mockingjay!

I feel like some raging fan screaming at a rock concert. I am so over-the-top excited to read this book. I haven't felt this excited since the release of HP 7, which, yes, I waited in line at midnight to get. I read that book the very night I bought it. And then again two days later b/c I thought I might've missed some important detail. I should be embarrassed, I guess, but I'm not. It is EXTREMELY rare for me to read a book more than once. And even more rare for me to read a book more than twice. I have read all HP's at least 4 times. I've read Hunger Games and Catching Fire both twice, and no doubt will re-read them again. I'm not sure what about books conjures this sort of excitement. I will likely have the book read in a few days and will post my opinion. I would love to know yours. I read often, but will rarely post my opinions. Mainly because I am a tough critic and authors have enough of those out there. As writers, I feel if it isn't positive, then follow mom's trusty rule.

My list of re-reads is short, but I thought in celebration of Mockingjay - which I will no doubt read several times - it would be good to discuss the books that have impacted us or resonated with us enough to re-read over and over and over.

(I'm starting from when I was young)

1. A Wrinkle in Time
2. The Bridge to Terabithia
3. Charlotte's Web
4. Pride and Prejudice (really most Austen)
5. The Da Vinci Code - don't blast me, you know it's a good book!
6. All Harry Potters - numerous times
7. The Lord of the Rings
8. A Christmas Carol
9. Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy
10. The Shining

There are others, of course, but these are the ones that come to mind. What about you? Have you read the HG's books more than once?

  1. I too am excited about Mockingjay! (But actually, I have yet to read Catching Fire. I was...a little slow on the uptake. hehe) I just reviewed Hunger Games on my own blog.

Also, I never re-read books, just because I'm always ready to devour the next one from my pile...and somehow the pile just keeps growing. But, #1-4 and #10 on your list are definitely on top of my own favourite book list! Good taste! :)

  2. LOL at your blog post title. I'm reading MOCKINGJAY right now too so we'll have to compare notes when we finished.

I've read both the HUNGER GAMES and CATCHING FIRE twice as well. You can really learn so much from these books.

Let's see, other books I've read several times:

    THE STAND by Stephen King
HIS DARK MATERIALS TRILOGY by Philip Pullman (one of my favorites).

Off to read more chapters of MOCKINGJAY. :)

  3. I just finished the Hunger Games (ya, way behind on the times!)...I stayed up pretty much all night to finish it and don't even care that today at work will be a write-off. I can't believe how amazing it was. So much deeper than the cover blurb lets on!! I can only hope Catching Fire and Mockingjay can live up to it!!

I'm definitely a re-reader! I know there are so many books out there that still deserve a first read, but re-reading a favourite is like visiting an old friend. Right now I'm re-reading the Princess Diaries series, just because I love Mia's voice and how Meg Cabot makes everyday, normal teenage life so entertaining!

As a kid, some of my favs were Voices after Midnight (Richard Peck), The Secret Garden, and a Wrinkle in Time.

As an adult, the latest books to keep me up all night have been Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. Oh, and of course, Harry Potter is a given :-)

  4. MD - Definitely read Catching Fire if you can get your hands on it. You'll be a little lost in Mockingjay if you don't read it first.

Karen - Yes, let's definitely compare when we're done! I'm about 100 pages into it now. I bought it yesterday morning and it took everything I had not to read it at work!

Laura - I can't believe we haven't talked about HG before. Love them! Catching Fire is good and so far Mockingjay is really exciting. You'll like them both. I haven't read The Princess Diaries in years, definitely need to re-read that one.
